Fungal timelapse from Planet Earth's "Jungles" (2006) #bridalveilstinkhorn #socooliwanttovomit
This species is called the Bridal Veil Stinkhorn. They are a fungi that grow in dead leaves at the bottom of the rainforests in Asia, South America, Australia and Africa. Apparently, they emit a horrible smell in order to attract flies that help them pollinate. They are commonly used for Chinese medicine and cuisine, and in Nigeria were used as a tool for hunters to ward off enemies in times of danger.
